The Writer's Corner

Beyond game development, the Last Hope forums fostered a vibrant creative writing community. "The Writer's Corner" was a dedicated forum section for fan fiction, story telling, roleplaying, and general discussion about pen & paper RPGs.

Moderated by vico and RPG_Jssmfulhud, this section became home to collaborative X-COM fiction, massive roleplay threads, and creative experiments that brought the community together through shared storytelling.

Enter the X-COM

"Alright people, I have said some time ago that I would post parts of my story here on the mod forum and well it's the time."

March 12, 1999, Base-2 located somewhere in Europe.

-Wil? Wil?- Wilcox was asleep in his comfy bed until he was interrupted by Dan and Jean, before he could even say anything Jean placed his hand on Wilcox mouth.

-Listen, just listen, something bad happened, something really bad, it's 2 in the morning and the base is empty, also there's no energy and the weapon box was open- Wilcox blinked and did nothing more, this had to be a very bad joke.

-Come on- Jean took his hand off Wilcox mouth and quickly Wilcox stood up, the barracks were empty and there was no light, this wasn't a joke.

-This is a joke... right?- Said Wilcox alarmed by the situation.

-No Wil, this IS serious and Amanda is missing from the infirmary- Said Dan, he was dressed like a guerrilla soldier.

The story follows Wilcox, Dan, and Jean as they navigate a zombie outbreak at an X-COM base. Armed with M1 Bearcat ARs and facing hordes of undead personnel, the trio must fight for survival in the darkened corridors of Base-2. The narrative features realistic military details, dark humor, and suspenseful action sequences.

"That's all for today kiddies, stay tuned for the next part of this chapter."
- Captain Commander Vico, MexCom Division

Collaborative Roleplay

Role Playing Anyone?

Started by vico | 96 replies across 7 pages | 1,709 views

One of the most popular threads in The Writer's Corner, this collaborative roleplay brought together community members to create an ongoing X-COM narrative. Members would write as their own characters, building on each other's contributions.

The Rules (set by vico):

  1. No matrix actions - it's real life based
  2. No uber shit, that includes all the things that Vejita does on the mIRC channel
  3. No spamming
  4. You can't double post unless you couldn't finish your first post
  5. You can have your own weapons, including custom weapons you create. Example: The Remington 1400 with expanded barrel and laser sight
  6. The RP doesn't have an end
  7. An X-COM agent can't kill another X-COM agent unless they consent

Opening Scene - On a Skyranger somewhere in the Pacific, October 26, 2003

A skyranger full of agents heads to an unknown destination, agents prepare themselves to engage aliens as soon as they drop from the ship, a corporal sits on the far left corner near the cockpit, he has corporal chevrons and wears basic X-COM BDU clothing, an odd looking shotgun being held by his left hand, he looks at the other soldiers and returns his view to his gun and awaits for the green light to turn on.

Notable Contributors:

  • vico - Captain Vico and MexCom storylines, including time travel to WWII
  • Vejita - Commanded the alien flagship, causing destruction
  • j00seppi - Commanded a heavy cruiser near the Canadian border
  • Schweisel - Led RusCom forces from Moscow with enhanced elerium ammunition
  • Salvi - Enforced forum rules and guided the narrative

The Time Travel Arc

One of the most creative storylines from the roleplay thread

In this arc, vico introduced a science fiction twist where "New Elerium" affected time and space, transporting Captain Vico back to World War II. The character featured multiple internal voices (Intelligent Vico, Athletic Vico, Hiding Vico) debating their situation.

The Captain has been crawling for a good time, he suddenly finds an exit and takes the break for it, outside he finds green pastures and something strange in the air.

Intelligent Vico: Where the hell are we?
Athletic Vico: Don't talk to me while I'm driving this thing.
Intelligent Vico: I think something is wrong, I haven't seen green pastures like this in a long time.

While walking through the green pastures Vico sees various soldiers running toward him... they are all wearing WW2 allied uniforms.

Captain: Identify yourself.
Vico: Captain Commander Vico, Serial Number: 198702030119, MexCom operative base.

The story continued with Vico cleverly convincing the Allied soldiers not to harm him by threatening diplomatic consequences with Mexico's petroleum supplies during the war effort.
