To the Last Hope Community

This memorial is dedicated to all the community members, developers, artists, and players who contributed to the Last Hope project across its six years of active development.

Though the mod may never have seen a full public release, the creativity, passion, and friendships formed during its development represent something worth remembering. Every weapon model crafted, every map designed, every line of lore written, every forum post shared - these were all acts of creative love for gaming.

The Last Hope project embodied the spirit of modding culture in the early 2000s: volunteers from around the world, united by shared passion, working together to create something new and exciting. That spirit deserves to be remembered.

To the Creators

The Modellers & Artists

To ApOcaLyPSe_1985 who gave us the X-COM Pistol, to Piotr "Toasteding" Dacewicz and Micha Zimmermann who brought the Crysis vision to life - your work captured the spirit of X-COM and created something new.

The Level Designers

To XPlicit and the farm maps of the Half-Life era, to George "Blackhawk" Sawday, Matt "Espilon" Brown, Caspar "Sisp" Wain, and Tony "Gunz" Clarke who designed the Earth Scope stations and derelict streets of the Crysis era.

The Storytellers

To Alex "Demise" Jennings who crafted the compelling story of the Slaver Horde, the Earth Scope, and humanity's last stand. The lore you created gave meaning to every battle.

The Community Builders

To Psyguy and the forum moderators, to Cyalume, POCTheSainT, and every member who participated in discussions - you created a home for this project.

Reflections

On Unfinished Projects

Many mods from this era never reached completion. Development teams formed and disbanded, real life intervened, technology moved on. This was the nature of volunteer modding - passionate but precarious.

But does an unfinished project lack value? The skills learned, the friendships formed, the creative problems solved - these had real meaning. Some team members may have gone on to careers in game development. Others carried the lessons and memories into other parts of their lives.

Last Hope may not have achieved its ultimate goal, but it achieved something: it brought people together in creative collaboration, and that matters.

On Preservation

This memorial exists because of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. Without their tireless work preserving the web's history, these memories would be lost.

The archived pages are incomplete - many images are missing, some pages were never captured, forum threads are fragmentary. But what remains tells a story worth telling.

If you were part of the Last Hope community and have memories, screenshots, or files to share, consider contributing to preservation efforts. Every piece helps complete the picture of what this community accomplished.

We Are Our Last Hope

"We have vowed as soldiers of the U.E.C. to reclaim the once great Earth Scope. Only then, can we stop the swarm of the Horde, and give hope to our once great planet."

We are the U.E.C. We are our Last Hope.

- From the Last Hope Crysis Prologue, November 2007
